The Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates with relevant experience for the position of Senior Executive Engineer (Temporary Fixed Term Contract).  The role is a management position in the Council and will have a pivotal part to play in the day to day operations of the Council.  The Senior Executive Engineer will be reporting to the Senior Engineer, or such person as may be assigned from time to time by Galway City Council. 

It is proposed to form a panel of qualified candidates from which temporary vacancies will be filled during the lifetime of the panel. 
 

The duties of the employment are to give to:
 

1. Galway City Council under the control of the Chief Executive or his nominee,

2. to any other local authority or body with which an agreement has been made by the local authority,

• Lead and manage engineering programmes in the areas of roads, traffic, housing, environment and other services;

• Lead and manage various projects in areas such as those detailed above

• Identify and agree work programmes, targets and deadlines and ensure their subsequent implementation and delivery;

• Manage staff and promote the training and development of such staff;

• Develop and manage Financial Resources including Budgets and Procurement. 

• Build effective teams, develop motivation and commitment and maintain sound employee relations and morale as relevant, in accordance with good employment practice and relevant legislation;

• Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders including various government departments and external agencies to ensure co-operation and co-ordination in the implementation of work programmes;

• Assist and manage where required in change management.

• Preparation/presentation of plans/policies for consideration by Council.

• Preparation/implementation of reports as required.

• Maintain and proactively develop a culture of Health and Safety in the workplace;

• Carry out duties in an impartial manner that enhances public trust and confidence in the local authority decision making process; and

• Carry out duties in a politically neutral manner, with a clear understanding of the political reality and context of the local authority.

• Such other duties as may from time to time be reasonably assigned appropriate to the grade.
