Job Summary

Qualifications and Requirements of the Post
CHARACTER
Each candidate must be of good character.

HEALTH
Candidates shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, ETC.
Candidates must on the latest date of receipt of completed application forms:
 

  1. Have attained a good standard of general education
  2. Have served a recognised apprenticeship in Plumbing/Mechanical Services and passed State examinations (QQI Advanced Level 6) for plumbing and heating, practical and theory (Junior and Senior Trades).
  3. Have experience of supervision or management within the construction industry and/or experience in the mechanical maintenance of public buildings or local authority housing.
  4. Have adequate knowledge and experience on the integration of mechanical services into the building fabric and have a good knowledge of building construction and a high awareness of current Building Regulations and IS 813 Gas Regulations.
  5. Have an adequate knowledge of building construction, regulations and standards.
  6. Be capable of writing clear and concise reports, keeping works records.
  7. Be able to read drawings and evaluate mechanical specifications & tender documents.
  8. Be proficient in heating system design, including heat loss calculations and system sizing.
  9. Have adequate experience to enable him/her to perform the duties of the post efficiently in the installation, repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment including the following:
  • Gas central heating installations, maintenance and testing
  • Oil central heating installations, maintenance and testing
  • Solid Fuel heating installations, maintenance and testing
  • Electrical heating installations, maintenance and testing
  • Domestic plumbing installations
  • Industrial and commercial installations
  • Mechanical/ventilation / renewable systems
  • Heat pump installations, maintenance and testing
  1. Candidates must be a holder of a full driving licence, Category “B”, free from endorsement and provide their own motor vehicle for use in carrying out their duties and their motor insurance policy must indemnify the Council.

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Be able to work on their own initiative.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be capable of writing clear and concise reports and keeping works records in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Monitoring best practices and quality of service on heating system servicing program and certification submitted.
  • Ensure newly installed equipment is registered and maintained to protect warranties.
  • Be able to read drawings and prepare sketches and have adequate knowledge of the use of CAD systems.
  • Be capable of quality-control inspections and interacting with onsite staff on new build, refurbishment & retrofit construction projects under a variety of building and service contracts.
  • Be capable of providing expertise and advice  on issues arising ranging from, specifications, new regulations, best practices and energy efficiency.
  • Deal with investigation of complaints and accidents and issuing reports.
  • Have at least 5 years’ experience in repair and maintenance of mechanical services equipment including some or all the following in both residential and non-residential installations.
    • Gas/Oil/Solid fuel boilers
    • Heat pump systems.
    • Central Heating controls and Pumping systems
    • Mechanical Ventilation equipment including Supply-and-Demand ventilation systems.
    • Hot and Cold Plumbing Installations in accordance with current Building Regulations.
