RESIDENT INSPECTOR (MECHANICAL) - TEMPORARY
DUBLIN PORT TUNNEL


Dublin City Council invites applications, on the official application form, from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which positions for Resident Inspector (Mechanical) – Temporary, Dublin Port Tunnel, may be filled. This temporary position will, subject to satisfactory service be for an initial period of one year.


QUALIFICATIONS


1. CHARACTER:

Each candidate shall be of good character.


2. HEALTH:

Candidates shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.


3. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ETC.:

Each candidate must:

(a) hold a HNC/Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification;

(b) after graduation, have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar post;

(c) have experience in some or all of the following areas:

- Building services;
- Plant and pipework distribution systems design and construction principles;
Standard industry and office software packages;

(d) have experience of working with a multi-discipline team;

(e) have good communication skills and be self motivated.


4. AGE:

Each candidate who reaches the age of 65 years prior to appointment will cease to be eligible for appointment.





RESIDENT INSPECTOR (MECHANICAL) - TEMPORARY
DUBLIN PORT TUNNEL



JOB SPECIFICATION

1. The Dublin City Council Dublin Port Tunnel Project Office is overseeing the delivery of this major urban motorway tunnel of 4.5km length. That office is charged with the strategic management of its implementation. It is also responsible for the direction and administration of the main Design and Construction contract, let to Nishimatsu Mowlem Irishenco (NMI) Consortium, and the Construction Supervision contract placed with Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) Ltd. Construction commenced in June 2001 and it is envisaged that the tunnel will be progressively opened to traffic in early 2006.

The Resident Inspector (Mechanical), assigned to the Dublin Port Tunnel Project Office, will be required to report to the Resident Engineer (Mechanical) of the Construction Supervisor (KBR Ltd.), in the supervision and monitoring of the installation of building services, HVAC and pipework distribution systems being carried out by the main Contractor, NMI Consortium, their sub-contractors and specialist contractors as may be appointed by the Employer, Dublin City Council.


2. DUTIES:
The duties of the office are to give to the local authority and to

(a) the local authorities or bodies for which the Manager is Manager, and

(b) to any other local authority or body with which an agreement has been made by the local authority or by any of the authorities or bodies referred to in sub-paragraph (a) of this paragraph

under the general direction and control of the Manager or of such officers as the Manager may from time to time determine, such appropriate technical, management, administrative, executive, supervisory, advisory and ancillary services as may be required by any local authority or body hereinbefore mentioned in the exercise and performance of any of its powers, functions and duties and to exercise such powers, functions and duties as may be delegated to him or her by the Manager from time to time including the duty of servicing all committees that may be established by any such local authority or body. The holder of the office will, if required, act for an officer of a higher level.

The duties shall include:-

(a) supervision and monitoring of the installation of building services, HVAC and pipework distribution systems being carried out by the main Contractor, NMI Consortium, their sub-contractors and specialist contractors as may be appointed by the Employer, Dublin City Council.

(b) attend training courses as the Project Manager deems<
