Kilkenny County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which temporary and permanent vacancies for Library Assistant may be filled. Positions may arise in any area of the Library Service
The Library Attendant role is a frontline position working as part of a team in a branch library. The duties of a library attendant are varied and can involve assignment to different libraries as well as relief duties across the library network.
The duties of a Library Attendant shall include but are not limited to the following:.
Assisting the public with desk enquiries and service enquiries
Assisting the public with the use of IT equipment for example self-service machines, photocopiers/printers etc
Controlling queues and directing the public to correct service points
Assisting in the management of the stock collection by shelving and reorganising stock to ensure stock areas are tidy and in order, simple repairs and relabeling of stock, maintaining and tidying collections of brochures and community notice boards as well as servicing of stock
Assisting in the delivery of library programming and events by maintaining and preparing activity areas for example organising seating, exhibition boards and equipment, distributing publicity materials,
Assisting with organisation of deliveries and dispatches to other locations including post.
Maintaining library areas to include securing and opening the building, be familiar with the operation of the electrical, heating, ventilation and plumbing systems and the carrying out of routine maintenance thereto e.g. check light bulbs, fuses etc. throughout the building, replace where possible, and report to branch manager/technical section where electrician is required.
Responsible for ensuring annual servicing of library equipment is carried out by the relevant suppliers
Maintain adequate heating in library and building as required.
Supporting the health and safety activity and regulation requirements in the library space including maintenance of Fire Register.
Ensure that the building is secure by checking that all windows and doors are locked at the close of business and alarms are set. If the building is still occupied by members of staff make appropriate arrangements to secure the building when vacated.
Prevent unauthorised person or persons from trespassing in the building and report any unauthorised entry to relevant Senior Member of staff.
Retain custody of the keys of all doors and for the opening and locking of such doors in accordance with instructions given from time to time.
Carrying out such instructions as may be given by time to time by the County Librarian or his/her authorised nominee
Relief Driver for Mobile Library Service and Delivery Service when needed.
6.1.17 Routine operation and review of CCTV as required. 6.1.18 Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
